Ralph Dale Earnhardt Jr is the son of the late great Nascar Legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. Junior was born October 10, 1974 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. He now drives the #88 Chevy Impala in the Nascar Sprint Cup series with Amp Energy and The National Guard as sponsors. He is part of Rick Hendricks team along with teammates Jeff Gordon and the three time, three in a row Cup Champion Jimmy Johnson. Junior started out driving a 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the Street Stock Car division where he got good enough to start driving in the Late Model Stock Car division. Throughout 1996 and 1997 Junior ran nine Nascar Bush Series races for Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Ed Whitaker before running full time in the Nascar Bush Series in1998. Junior won13 races back to back Nascar Bush Series championships in 1998 and 1999. Junior raced the #8 Budweiser in 5 Nascar Winston Cup races in 1999. Full-Time Cup Racing In 2000 Junior ran full time in Nascar's Winston Cup Series where he won 2 Cup races and the Winston Select race in which he was the first rookie to ever win the all-star race. In 2001 at the Daytona 500 Dale Earnhardt Sr. wrecked on the final lap in turn 4 and lost his life. Junior finished second in that race. Junior got wins at Talladega, Dover and an emotional win with the return to Daytona. In 2002 Junior won 2 times at Talladega with 2 Bud Pole Awards and finished 11th in the standings.In 2003 Junior got his fourth consecutive Talladega win. Junior got a win at Phoenix and came home third n the chase points and won Nascar's Most Popular Driver Award. Junior finished 5th in the Chase and picked up his 2nd consecutive Most Popular Driver Award. In 2005 Junior only won one race at Chicagoland and finished the season 19th in points. In 2006 Junior finished 5th in the points with only one win. In 2007 Junior went winless and didn't make the chase but sill won the Nascar's Most Popular Driver award for the 5th consecutive time. In 2008 Junior moved from DEI to Rick Hendrick Motorsports where he won his first race with his new team. The Budweiser Shootout, a non-points paying race. He won the Gatorade duel just five days later. Junior broke the 76 race winless streak with a win at Michigan, his only points race win that year finishing 12th in the points.
