Throughout his career, the 38 year old number 20 Home Depot driver has had spectacular success. Anthony Wayne Stewart better known as Tony Stewart was born May 20, 1971 in Columbus Indiana. He has landed 11 championships since he started racing go-carts in Westport Indiana in 1978. Everyone knows Tony by his nickname "Smoke", which he earned for slipping the right rear tire in dirt races and for blowing several engines

In 1995 Tony Stewart set the bar high by being the only driver to win three championships with three different types of cars on dirt tracks and asphalt, The Sprint Crown, Silver Crown, and Midget Crown all in a season

IRL Championship – 4 USAC Championships Including The Triple Crown

Tony first started racing in the Nascar Busch Series in 1996 for car owner Harry Rainer. He raced 9 races with only a 16th place best finish. He also had a 10th place finish in the Craftsman Truck Series. In 1997, Tony won the IRL Indy Car Series Chamionship! He has four United States Auto Club (USAC) Including The Triple Crown!

All of this success earned Tony a ride for 22 races in the Nascar Nationwide Series with Joe Gibbs Racing. Joe Gibbs is very well known as the former NFL Hall of Fame head coach of the Washington Redskins. Tony finished in the top 10 when he could finish the race without incident he also had a 3rd best finish. Tony was also driving a full-time IRL schedule that year. Tony started driving for the Cup series in1999.

He won his first Cup Championship in 2002 where he beat Mark Martin by 38 points. He won a second Cup Championship in 2005 when he beat Greg Biffle by just 35 points. In 2009, Tony will have his chance to hold the reins with his half ownership In Stewart/Haas Racing Company.
