Mark Martin is a Nascar legend. He is said to be the most respected driver on the circuit. He was born January 9th 1951 in Batesville, Arizona. He now resides in Daytona Florida with his wife and 4 kids. Mark started racing in the (ASA) American Speed Association when he was 17. Martin won Rookie of the year that year. He went on to win 3 (ASA) championships in a row. Martin started racing in the Nascar Winston Cup. He bounced around with sponsors from 1981-1983 and landed back at the ASA and won another Championship in 1986 Mark Martin is known as a racers racer which means he would drive any car in any race. Martin came back to Nascar in 1987. Martin won the Dover race that year and was noticed by Jack Roush. That began his long career with Roush Racing. In 2005 Mark Martin finished 4th in the points just 105 points behind the Cup Champion Tony Stewart .He drove for Jack Roush up until 2006. That's when he decided to retire. Martin holds the record for the most career wins in the Bush National Series with 47 trips to Victory Lane. He also had 35 Nascar Cup victories. In 2006 Martin came out of retirement to help Jack Roush his previous team owner because there was a dispute over Jamie McMurray's contract, the driver that replaced Martin. In 2007 Martin ran a part-time season with Ginn Racing. He got 3 consecutive top 5's in a row. He had never done tat throughout his career. Martin almost won the Daytona 500 but Kevin Harvick beat him by inches. DEI took over Ginn racing along with Martins contract. Martin drove for the rest of the season for DEI. In 2009 He will drive full time for Hendrick Motorsports in 2009. Mark Martin built a legendary career in Nascar from humble beginnings. He built what is truly one of the most outstanding careers in the sport of Nascar. His respect among his peers is second to none.
